Meet your Massage Therapist Tim Dempsey

I became a Massage Therapist in Florida in 2021, following a career as a first responder. I worked as a Paramedic, Firefighter, and Law Enforcement Officer for a combined total of over 20 years, as well as being an Army veteran. I have an A.S. in EMS Management and an A.S. in Fire Science. I was an instructor in many aspects of my career, such as leading paramedics, Fire Science advanced classes, and progressive law enforcement courses.

My public safety career resulted in many physical injuries over the years. Still, I was caught by the devastating diagnosis of PTSD resulting from the countless tragedies I was involved with over my career. This diagnosis ended my public safety career early, and I still need to provide for my family. Massage therapy allowed me to use my extensive medical training and experience to continue helping others while providing a therapeutic environment for myself to work. I also strive to be an asset to my first responder family through massage and being open about my struggle with PTSD so they know they are not alone and can seek help!

During my recovery from many injuries during my career, massage encouraged pain relief, promoted quicker healing, and reduced reliance on medications for pain control. Massage also provides a significant benefit in the reduction of symptoms of PTSD by allowing and guiding the body into a relaxed state. This has fueled my passion for helping others by encouraging the body to heal itself!

I worked in a spa environment for three years after becoming licensed and was also a massage instructor at Space Coast Education Center in Florida; my responsibilities as an instructor involved teaching anatomy and physiology to massage students to enable them to pass the licensing exams successfully and to become effective and passionate therapists. I am now an adjunct instructor in the massage program at Spartanburg Community College. I teach massage ethics, review Anatomy and physiology, and coach new students through basic massage techniques. My focus on massage is all aspects of medical massage and deep tissue work using trigger point therapies. My philosophy toward massage is that it should never be painful, although it may incur some discomfort. The goal is for it to “hurt so good!”

I am licensed as a Massage Therapist in both South Carolina and Florida. After becoming a licensed massage therapist, I continued my massage education by completing a series of advanced courses in medical massage. This training focuses on the anatomy and physiology involved in multiple medical and trauma-related musculoskeletal dysfunctions. It further provided real-world practice and experience in treating these injuries and dysfunctions. This education led me to become certified as a Medical Massage Practitioner. I continue to hone my skills through continuing education and practice. I have successfully treated many of the musculoskeletal dysfunctions of the neck, upper back, chest, arms, lower back, hips, and legs. These successes resulted in reduced pain, improved range of motion, and a better quality of life!

I relocated to South Carolina in August of 2023 to be with my girlfriend for several years. I love being in the great state of South Carolina and its slower pace and friendlier atmosphere than in Florida! I have an adult daughter living in Florida and a teenage son who will continue to stay in Florida to finish his high school education and prepare for college. My hobbies include being outdoors (hunting, fishing, hiking, etc.). I also enjoy working on my Jeep and doing home repairs/remodeling. I have spent several years working with youth in Scouts BSA as an Assistant Scoutmaster and Merit Badge Councilor. Once I get settled into my new home, I will continue volunteering with Scouts BSA.

I look forward to building new relationships with clients and being able to serve you!
